IOI-Thailand has co-organized the activity in the World Ocean Day 2022

          On 8th June 2022, The International Ocean Institute Thailand Training Center (IOI-Thailand) has co-organized the activity in the World Ocean Day. In this regard, Dr. Anuwat Nateewathana, Director of IOI-Thailand attended and gave the statement on occasion of World Ocean Day 2022 with Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment presided over the ceremony. The activities in this event consist of Marine and Coastal environment exhibition, marine endangered species rescue, national and international collaboration in marine and coastal environment and turtle release activity including being 
a witness in the memorandum of understanding ceremony on garbage boom project between government and private sector in five main rivers in the upper gulf of Thailand. This activity aims to minimize the floating plastic that can be leaked into the ocean consists of 

          1) Chao-Phraya river 
          2) Bang-Pakong river 
          3) Tha-Chin 
          4) Mae-Klong and 
          5) Bang-Tabun by using garbage boom. 
          This collaboration is five years plan by six companies are attended. However, The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the related agencies will seek cooperation and expand the operation to other areas in order to address this issue and to achieve the sustainable management of marine debris further.

 

 

 

 

          Statement of IOI – Thailand Director on World Oceans Day, June 8th 2022 at Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand.
World Oceans Day is held every year on 8th June since 2009 to raise awareness of the vital importance of our oceans and the role they play in sustaining a healthy planet. This year’s United Nations World Oceans Day, on 8 June 2022, will highlight the theme Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean. 
          International Ocean Institute Thailand Training Centre (IOI-Thailand) has been established since 2000. The current host institute is Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand. The Center is an umbrella of the International Ocean Institute (IOI, Malta) which established since 1972. Thus, this year is the 50th Anniversary (golden jubilee) of the IOI. The institute aims to ensure the sustainability of the oceans as the “source of life”. The respect for common goods, the peaceful and sustainable use of ocean services and resources, the Common Heritage of mankind as enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The Center, as the knowledge-based has promoted education, training and research to enhance the sustainable development of marine and coastal resources and the quality of marine management, protection, and preservation. It also involved many activities in the World Ocean Day since 2006. 
          The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand marks World Oceans Day each year on 8 June through an annual event coordinated by Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) and other related Departments. On this occasion, IOI-Thailand, much gratitude and appreciation is extended to the global partnerships for working together to protect and revitalize the ocean and everything it sustains.
